But what is a “Didymos”?
Didymos – that´s a Greek word meaning “twins”. It was the birth of twins that marked the starting point of Didymos . Erika Hoffmann, founder of Didymos, was expecting twins. As most of you might know, it is not easy to carry a newborn while also doing grocery shopping or even buying a ticket for public transportation; but having twins increases the demand on parents and makes normal everyday logistics perplexing and overwhelming. Could there be any remedy? The solution was already out there and still alive, in other parts of the world, by different cultures: Latin-American, African and Asian mothers have used the baby wrap to carry their babies for generations. The Europeans used it as well, but it got lost by the invention of the pram. Ms. Hoffmann used this influence to develop a functional wrap that continued what parents of all cultures have always known: wearing your baby close is the most intimate experience, promoting bonding and creating the deepest feeling of security. And Didymos was born. Early on, Ms. Hoffmann and her twins were exciting anomalies, being smiled at while most others in their area were pushing their children in prams. Nowadays, the Wraparound Sling has become a common part in the lives of young parents. Babywearing has gone through a remarkable development. Today Didymos not only offers the classic Didymos baby wrap, but the DidySling – a baby sling with a ring, easy to use – the Didy Meh-Dai (DidyTai) and the DidyKlick.
